LEISURE HOLIDAYS SDN BHD, now known as LEISURE HOLIDAYS BHD, was incorporated on 17 September 1984 as a private limited company. Founded by Dato' Loy Teik Ngan, the company commenced operations in 1987 as one of Malaysia’s pioneering timeshare businesses.
Its first venture was Leisure Bay in Penang, an abandoned property located in Tanjung Tokong. Dato’ Loy, having been introduced to the concept of timesharing while studying abroad, saw an opportunity to rejuvenate the project through a timeshare model. This bold move quickly paid off, and within five years, the company had sold thousands of memberships. Expanding its portfolio, Leisure Holidays acquired additional properties across Malaysia, including in Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands, and Cameron Highlands.
The company’s rapid growth and innovation earned it recognition as one of the largest vacation clubs in the Asia Pacific region. It was also honored by Resort Condominiums International (RCI) for its significant contributions to the vacation ownership industry.
In line with evolving industry regulations, Leisure Holidays transitioned to a public company on 21 December 1992, complying with Malaysia’s new timeshare legislation. Today, the company boasts a paid-up capital of RM17.4 million.
Dato' Loy’s influence extended beyond Leisure Holidays. He played a key role in shaping the regulatory framework for Malaysia's timeshare industry and was appointed as the first chairman of the Malaysian Holiday Timeshare Developers’ Federation (MHTDF).
A major milestone for the industry came in 1997, when Leisure Holidays Bhd successfully advocated for the reclassification of the timeshare industry from the property sector to the tourism sector. This strategic shift provided a significant boost to the industry's credibility and growth.
Continuing its tradition of innovation, in 2000, Leisure Holidays Bhd introduced the points-based timeshare system in Malaysia, offering greater flexibility compared to the traditional week-based system.
Today, Leisure Holidays Bhd owns and operates six resorts across Malaysia, along with an additional resort in Gold Coast, Australia, solidifying its position as a leader in vacation ownership in the region
